Red Wine from Longford Wines. Our fine list of reds includes:
RED WINE: BURGUNDY
Château de Corton André is the only Grand Cru classified Chateau on the Côtes de Beaune.
Bourgogne Pinot Noir Reserve, Pierre André 2000 Produced with grapes exclusively grown in the Côtes de Beaune, the generic Pinot Noir from Pierre André is a fresh and lively red wine with good depth of flavour and ideal for current drinking.
Ladoix, "Clos des Chagnots" 1998, Pierre André Light Pinot colour with a fruity bouquet and flavour with good acidity at the finish for a long aftertaste. Ready now but will keep for years. A red wine of excellent value.
Savigny les Beaune "le Champier" 1999, Pierre André A classic burgundy vintage, these fruit-packed 1999's will soon sell out.
Santenay "Prieure Sainte-Agathe" 1998, Pierre André A dark Pinot colour and a bouquet that is forward and well pronounced. A rounded taste on the palate with sweet fruits and a long aftertaste. Scored highly at tasting, for drinking reasonably early to 2010.
Chambolle Musigny 2000, Pierre André A fruity and structured Pinot Noir with a strong bouquet. Without doubt the finest red wine of the Côte de Nuits.
Aloxe-Corton 1998, Pierre André A smooth clear colour and a lean intensity on the palate. A bright acidic backbone with soft tannins giving a fine, long finish and a guarantee of long life. Drinking now to 2010.
HOSPICES DE BEAUNE - RED WINE
We have bought fine Burgundy at the Hospices auction over the last decade and offer the following outstanding red wine at prices that are exceptional for wines of this prestige.
Beaune Première Cru, Clos des Avaux 1994 Red colour with orange reflections. Fine bouquet with black currant overtones. Meaty, well structured taste with attractive tannins.
Beaune Première Cru, Cuvée des Dames Hospitalieres 1996 Deep red colour. Elegant morello cherry bouquet. Balanced and well structured. A brilliant vintage red wine.
Perhaps proper Beaujolais is on the come-back. Because of the hype of Nouveau, we have forgotten how fresh and invigorating real Beaujolais can be, especially the Crus which can be a lovely alternative to longer-maturing and more expensive burgundies. All wines listed are drinking perfectly now and for next year.
Juliénas Les Poiriers 1997, Pierre André A vigorous, fruity red wine with a subtle bouquet.
Côte de Brouilly Mont Brillant 1999, Pierre André A fruity and rich red wine.
Moulin-à-Vent La Bruyère 1998/2000, Pierre André Moulin-à-Vent is the biggest and potentially best red wine of Beaujolais. Meaty and long lived.
Fleurie Domaine de la Treille 2000, Pierre André Fleurie is the epitome of Beaujolais. A beautiful red colour with a scent of violets and roses: fruity, scented, silky and racy.
SOUTHERN RHÔNE RED WINE
Here are the generous wines, which warm the heart and are the perfect accompaniment to rich game casseroles, pigeon pies and other traditional meats. Each red wine expresses the individual character of its appellation.
Coteaux du Tricastin, "La Ferette" 2000 Liogier Soft, lively and fresh everyday drinking Rhône. Our most popular house red wine.
Côtes du Rhône, "Domaine de la Taladette" 1999 Liogier Good everyday drinking with plenty of fruit and a firm backbone typical of the vintage with cherry influences. A consistently first class red wine.
Côtes du Rhône Villages, "Le Segur" 1999 Liogier This dark and full Côtes du Rhone is richer than their better known "La Taladette" as it has a higher level of Syrah. A fine example of this famous red wine ready for drinking.
Lirac, "Les Beauforts" 1997/2000 Liogier Ever popular, we can find no imperfection and just a perfect reflection of southern heat and tropical fruits. Full and fat on the palate with an abundance of flavour.
Gigondas La Bastide 2000 A very powerful, robust and fruity red wine. The bouquet has traces of sous-bois, prunes and liquorice. A degree of patience is required to enable this proud wine to be seen at its best.
Châteauneuf du Pape "Montjoie" 1998/1999 Liogier The aristocrat of the Southern Rhône scored top marks on tasting with a full bouquet showing the deep sun drenched fruits of the region followed by a full-bodied thick red wine full of spices and fruit. Try and keep some for a few years to realise the full potential.
NORTHERN RHÔNE RED WINE
